Beginning of the 16th International Festival of Culture and Folk Dance of the Balkans

The Metropolitan Municipality of Izmir organizes for the sixteenth time this year the Festival of Balkan Folk Dance and Culture. During the four-day festival, in which 12 countries will participate, messages of peace will be carried from Izmir to the whole world.

The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which revived the “Balkan Folk Dance Festival”, which was first held in 1935 and 1936 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, will again host a magnificent party this year. Launched after Atatürk’s words “Peace at home, peace in the world” and aimed at strengthening Balkan brotherhood, the festival will be held from September 23 to 26 this year. The festival organized by Turkey; Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Greece will be invited. In addition to performances by folk dance teams, there will also be concerts, exhibitions and lectures at the festival.

Candan Erçetin will take the stage during the opening concert

The festival will begin on Friday, September 23 at 5:30 p.m. with a ceremony in Cumhuriyet Square. After the opening, the participants will walk to the Kültürpark with a procession. Candan Erçetin will be on stage during the opening concert of the festival. The concert will take place in the Kulturpark at 21.00:16.
