Migration Governance Indicators Data and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration: A Baseline Report

Resources

This paper analyzes global, regional and thematic trends that emerge from MGI data in relation to the overall commitment and associated range of actions for each of the 23 goals of the Global Compact for Migration. Grounded in mapping MGI indicators against Global Compact goals, the data analysis is based on MGI data collected between 2016 and 2021 for 84 countries that have voluntarily conducted an MGI assessment and for which data is readily available in March 2022. The core of the document consists of 23 data sheets displaying global and regional summary statistics of responses to MGI questions mapped to the respective Compact goals. The MGI data is supplemented by a series of secondary (external) variables that help contextualize the MGI results. This information is supplemented by “MGI Data Insights”, which are text boxes showing insights into interesting trends found in the data. Finally, MGI’s qualitative data is incorporated into the data reports through the inclusion of a series of selected MGI examples detailing relevant policies (one for each objective).
